La Masseria Authentic Italian Cusine proudly presents the art of Michel Sabourin, Visual Artist, at a limited exhibition this 2019 season.

It was a beautiful fall day at the Pawling Mountain Club. Mr. DeVisscher takes his two sons into the mountains to hunt every fall for quality time spent together. This old hunting tradition was passed down to him by his father when he was growing up in Belgium, and he continues this tradition by sharing the experience with his children. He wanted a piece that expressed his family's heritage.

A couple approached Michel one spring day and told him that they were going to be in Croatia for the summer cruising the coast on a yacht. Remembering Michel’s scenic work from the Amalfi coast featured at the Jupiter, Florida-based Buonasera Ristorante, the couple wanted to re-create the same style and feeling in a custom piece for their home.

Michel met them in the town of Split in Croatia, where he scouted the private islands around the area for the best site and time of the day. They appeared with their yacht late one afternoon in the place selected by Michel. The process went smoothly. They were thrilled with the outcome, and each time they walk by their custom piece, they are taken back to Croatia.

This piece took into consideration the family's teenagers. It was important that the creation process be fun to keep them engaged, so Michel suggested that they create at one of their favorite vacation spots in the Bahamas. Now every time they walk into their living room, the piece gives them the feeling of being there, in that moment.

A member of Michel’s family of clients commissioned him for two creations. One focuses on her beautiful dog, Taylor. In the other piece, Michel restored Pennock Point and the Loxahatchee River to its natural state, removing all manmade landmarks that were built after the 1940's.

Both works were embellished with oils to bring the portraits to life. Michel's skilled team installed both pieces the same day. Taylor's portrait stands guard over the beautiful piano. The 12 foot wide by 5 foot tall landscape hangs on the wall 15 feet above the living room for all to see.

Michel unveiled the piece to his client, and they celebrated with a glass of wine.

The Ryan Family is part of Michel’s family of clients for the past 20 years. He has created portraits of their family in New York, Florida and now, Italy. The family rented a villa in Positano, and Michel created a multi-generation portrait of them with the beautiful backdrop of the countryside.

Michel was commissioned to create portraits for Don Alfonso, an Italian chef who runs a famous 3 Michelin restaurant in the town of Sant’Agata, facing Capri Island. Michel created with Don Alfonso and his family on his farm for a piece for their wall, as well as for a documentary of Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890.
